Agua Viva works primarily near the Lake Victoria Rim in some of the poorest and most remote areas. Many of these communities do not have a water source nearby. Agua Viva devised a method to pump water from Lake Victoria, the closest water source, in one-inch pipe to locations as far as a mile away. As one of the most diverse countries in East Africa, Tanzania is home to 120 ethnic, linguistic and religious groups. Agua Viva volunteers had the pleasure of meeting Maasai people while working on more than installation. Recently, Agua Viva’s water purification system was tested to the limit, as it serves over 5,000 students in several schools.
