Nacaome Valle, Honduras
Water Room Dedication and Celebration
PN 24-013
The village of Agua Fria is located in the Municipality of Nacaome in the Department of Valle, is very close to the Gulf of Fonseca. This is a fishing community. Fishing being their main source of income. It has an approximate population of 3,800 people. Even though Agua Fria has its own water source; it is contaminated and almost all of the residents drink water directly from the tap, thus causing gastrointestinal diseases in the population and in children showing a significant level of malnutrition.
After Agua Viva signed an Agreement with the New Vision Evangelical Church led by Pastor Onan Gómez; we managed to install one of our systems in Agua Fría. This installation was successful in large part due to the commitment and help of local volunteers without whom we would not have been able to carry out this task.
Even though our Operating Partner already had its water connection from the community; Pastor Onan raised $3,000 in record time to dig his own water well to have their own water source. In addition, he managed to raise $4,000 to buy an automatic machine to package water in small bags since this is the way water is most sold in this community. All of this with the goal of capturing the pure water market in the community of Agua Fría and nearby villages. In addition, our Operating Partner gives away purified water to the poorest neighbors and the kindergarten in the community.
The New Vision Evangelical Church in Agua Fría can serve as a model for other Operating Partners of ours, since it has proven to be an excellent fund manager to acquire what is necessary to be successful and above all to benefit its entire community with purified water and thus improve the health of its inhabitants, especially children.
