Magu, Tanzania
Water Room Dedication and Celebration
PN 19-008

The community of Magu sits on the shore of Lake Victoria, which is their water source. They have 3,500 people including a nearby Compassion sponsored church. The lake water is both cloudy with sediment and contaminated with disease causing bacteria and viruses. To build this system, a gasoline pump was put in the lake with 1,200 feet of water pipe to bring the lake water to the church. To address the cloudy sediment, sand filters were installed. This provides a critical first level of filtration allowing the operators to obtain clear water for the water board.
The following project detail was provided by our Africa in-country coordinator, Mbaja Wagome, who led an all Tanzanian team for this installation and health and hygiene education program.
Our work was completed, and Magu’s community was extremely grateful and thankful.
The occasion was graced by the Archbishop Musa Masanja Magwesela of Mwanza AICT diocese. He expressed his utmost thanks to Agua Viva and the Americans who donate their money to better the lives of Africans. He said we are all children of God and prayed for Mbaja and the ìn-country team. He promised to write a letter to Agua Viva CEO and other volunteers for the help they have been offering to Africa and the fact that you have worked with the AICT in ensuring that you provide clean and purified water. This will now reduce waterborne diseases.
One old man decided to take a bottle of water so that he could be the first person to drink Agua Viva water, saying that he is tired of frequent stomach pain, due to dirty drinking water.
The village elder appreciated Agua Viva and reminded the government to emulate this.
