Punín Community

Agua Viva has been developing a relationship with Father Marco, the pastor at Santuario del Senor de la Agonia for several years.  An Agua Viva team visited Punin in 2024 and met Father Marco and several members of his congregation.  They explained how the congregation will work together to support the system and ensure safe, purified water will be distributed widely to families in the surrounding communities.  The women in the congregation explained that finding purified water in this part of Ecuador is very difficult and many families miss days of work and school due to water related illnesses.  They strongly believe that El Senor de la Agonia represents the great agony suffered by Jesus Christ.  They explained how the church has a duty to spread the love of God to everyone they can, including meeting this great need and reducing suffering.  They want to serve the Lord by producing purified water with the Agua Viva system and sharing the health and hygiene education program with as many people as they can.  Thanks to Father Marco’s strong leadership and the diligent work of his congregation, the people of Punin and many nearby communities now have access to purified water.
